On January 28th our old colleague Richard Hill and his wife Elizabeth joined us in the museum at Kidderminster for a presentation on his retirement from the SVR and his subsequent move to Oakham.

Richard has been stalwart supporter of the railway for over 25 years, commuting from London at the start then moving to Bewdley after taking early retirement. He took up the task of TTI to start with then eventually ended up training new recruits to that position. Following this he moved to the LNER  Coach group and was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Gresley teak coaches to give the SVR the first full set of 9 vehicles.

For his retirement presentation he was given a framed photograph of Bittern and the full set of teaks charging along the valley in full steam. It was a favourite sight and this will give him great pleasure in the future.

His retirement will leave a big hole in the organisation bearing in mind his wonderful fund raising efforts over the years and his endless enthusiasm for anything to do with Sir Nigel Gresley.

From all his friends at the railway we wish Richard and Elizabeth all the best for their move to a new home.
